We have a pledge from a major donor that was made during the last fiscal year. Originally, the money was to go to our Building Fund which is part of our Capital Campaign. However, the donor has since decided the the funds should go to our general fund. Does anyone have any suggestions for changing this record from Restricted to Unrestricted? RE won't let me change the campaign by doing an adjustment.

Carol, What's happening when you try to do an adjustment/split gift/campaign? I just tried and it changed the pledge campaign just fine. The payment that had been applied did not change to the new campaign. That would have to be an adjustment on the payment.
When a donor makes a five year pledge the pledge is built with the current year as the fund and campaign(2007). So when a pledge payment is posted in the years following, the gift record is automatically coded with the fund and campaign year from the year the pledge was initially built. How can the pledge payment be applied to the current fund and campaign year(2008)?

If you click on Auto Distribute the campaign, fund and appeal are "automatically coded" but not "unchangeably" (is that a word?) coded. You can just change the codes on the gift tab. You should let your financial department know since the entire pledge was booked the year it was made.

Assuming that your finance office is following most accounting practices there might be no need to change the campaign and fund. The day a person makes a 5 year pledge - traditionally the entire amount is counted toward that original campaign and fund but since not all cash was received a debt was created. So, your finance office books the entire amount as revenue in that first year and creates a receivable for the debt. Payments in future years are simply receivable payments (or payments toward the debt that was created) They can not count in the campaign or fund for this year.
I hoep this makes sense.
Also, just as an FYI, if your pledges or gifts have a status of Posted on the Misc tab and you are unable to change the campaign or appeal from there, you can adjust gifts. Although the main tab on an adjustment holds only the Fund implying that you could change only that, you can go to the Split Gift tab of the Adjustment and there you are able to change the Campaign or Appeal as needed. I hope that this information is helpful.
