Can these gifts be put on the individuals record with a note that it was made through the individuals' company or does a new record need to be made for the company and soft credit the constituent? For reports, these small companies create a problem in that what we want to see on the reports is the individuals' gift information, not the small company. I don't want to include soft credit in the reports. One thought is that the acknowledgement letter could indicate thanks to the individual for a gift made through the company (name). Does this become an IRS issue?

Kay, the IRS is adamant that these gifts go on the record of the company and be soft-credited. Raiser's Edge will allow you to show soft-credits in reports and for donor recognition. Beth Palmer Director of Development Gaston Day School Gastonia, NC 704 864 7744 X224

Yes, it is an IRS issue. You do need to record it as a gift from the legal donor which is the company and receipt only that donor. I understand the reporting issue but you will have to set up internal procedures for using soft credits in reports when necessary and/or create custom crystal reports if canned reports do not report the way you want them to Melissa S.
