Dual Enrollment - High School & College

We have a student who is doing dual enrollment, that is, he is enrolled in college courses during his senior year but will graduate from our high school. I have been asked to prepare a transcript for him so that he can be shown as graduating from high school. My question is, is anyone else doing this sort of thing? Are you adding the college courses to your list of high school transfer courses? If you are calculating GPA, how are you giving credit to the college courses? The easiest solution for me is to manually generate a transcript in Word and then manually calculate his GPA. I would like to talk with someone who has gone through this process. We do not include courses taken at a college, or summer courses taken at other high schools for that matter, on our transcript. We include a copy of the other school's transcript when we send out their college applications. We include courses taken at college as a note on the transcript. We do not include them in our GPA. On very rare occasions we will allow a student to take a majority of courses at a college senior year, but they are required to take some courses within our school that year even if they are independent study courses. My school is a division of Fairfield University, as such we permit certain select seniors to take one or two courses at FU for high school credit. Although you can place outside courses into EE for GPA inclusion; I find it preferable to create an EE course with the same title as the college course and place it on our current year Master Timetable as a course with no meetings. This permits me to insert marks submitted to me from the Office of the Registrar at FU into our system for full GPA calculation and reporting on our transcripts and report cards. College course titles begin with an * and our transcripts explan what a course carrying an asterisk is.

Louise, I really like your idea of having an * before the course for college courses. Thanks for your input. Norm Dunkin Director of Information Services Landmark Christian School [Email Removed]
