Easy Way to print activity from Projects

When looking at the activity tab in the "Projects" section of General Ledger is there an "easy" way of printing the activity information the user is looking at. The most logical way would be a File >> Print, but evidently my logic, and the logic of many of my users, doesn't match the financial edge's logic. Is it really more complicated than a simple File >> Print?

I would suggest going to Reports, Project Reports, Project Financial Statements, which will give you the information that you see under Records, Projects, Activity. You set them up just like the general financial statements with columns, etc. If you want detailed activity (transactions), go to Reports, Project Reports, Project Activity Report. Here you can choose the time frame, filter on a particular project, etc. This will show you all transactions, but does not add up any amounts by line items, time period, etc. Connie Church Director, Finance and Administration Association of Teachers of Preventive Medicine Washington, D. Easy Way to print activity from Projects

Hello Connie, Thank you for the feedback. We are having to do something very similar to that since we can't just do a simple "File" >> "Print" on the screen that we are looking at. The challenge is it isn't easy. Big difference between 1. "File" >> "Print" and 2. "Reports">>"Project Reports" >> "Project Activity Report" >> "Filters" >> "Projects" set to selected >>Search for the project that I happen to be currently looking at anyway >> Select that project >> and preview the report. All of that just to get to the information that I was looking at on my screen to begin with. It doesn't seem very logical. I would like to say that my users will do the "long" way if they have to, but they are already deciding to just export out of The Financial Edge into Excel or do a "Ctrl" >> "PrtScn" since it is more simple than all of the steps that it takes if one stays within Financial Edge to get the information printed that they are currently looking at. I was hoping that maybe there was a more simple way to print out information that a user is currently looking at, rather than having to go through all of the steps that are necessary just to print out the exact information they are seeing on their screen. Thank you again for the feedback. I appreciate your taking the time to give me the information and walking me through the steps I need to take to print out project activity information. Have a great day!

I'm not sure this will give you exactly what you are wanting, but if you right click on the screen (in the grid), you can export the info to excel and then print it. The project number doesn't come across, and you have to adjust the columns to fit, but is fairly quick to do.

Depending upon how you use the printed copy, perhaps exporting to Excel would suffice. If you right click on any of the drill down levels of the Activity tab it will show options including Export to Excel and, on all except the income statement (1st level), there is also a print function. That said we usually run a Project Detail Report. We have customized a report to be accessed by all FE users and I also have it on my home page of FE. From home page, click on Project Detail Report, change any parameters (project, dates, etc.) and preview - in case I want to look at it, save it or print it.

Easy Way to print activity from Projects

I'm with Sean on this one. Yes, there are ways to get this information in printed form. But you have to go through too much work. At least it's too much to expect from the people who want the information and have other software systems to master. I don't want to be the gatekeeper they have to go to when they want this information. And they don't want to have to spend hours learning about filters, formats, parameter files, or the difference between a project activity report and a project detail report. They just want the numbers so they can make decisions. What really surprises me is that nearly every program I work with has a print option that will print what I see on the screen. But in Financial Edge, if I'm looking at the project's activity tab (which is quite handy, by the way), then go to File->Print, I'm asked to pick (or create) a parameter file. No! No! No! Just print what I'm looking at. Where were the user interface design folks when this was developed?!? Paul Higgins Green Lake Conference Center Green Lake, Wisconsin

Easy Way to print activity from Projects

Hello Connie and others, I wanted to do an update on this. Although, it does seem "clunky" as one of my users put it, I did discover that once this print function/report function is set up the first time it can be saved and users can use it for other projects. It's just the first initial one that is a pain in the neck to set up. It still would be nice to see a "File" >> "Print Current Screen" when it is something you want done quickly and don't want to have to set up a parameter file if one isn't available yet. Happy Learning Everyone!!

If you just want the data printed on a piece paper, do this:

    <Alt> <Print Screen>

    Go to Excel, Word, anything

    Paste

    Print

Another easy way to print that screen is to right click anywhere in the activity grid and select Export ot Excel and print from there.
