Google Analytics

If you have not already set up Google Analytics on your BBNC site, I suggest it. You can get a lot more information from it than the few website usage reports that come "out of the box" with BBNC. Here are the steps to set it up: 1. Go to http://www.google.com/analytics/ and create your account. - As a suggestion, I created one that used a new, more generic email address (got the email admin to set it up for me) so multiple users in the Development department could share the login and be able to view the reports. 2. After your account is set up, log into the Google Analytics website and select My Account in the top right of the page. 3. Choose Analytics from the My Services menu. 4. From the Analytics home page, select Add Website Profile. 5. Select the "Add a profile for a new domain" option. 6. Fill in the organization's website URL into the "Please provide the URL of the site you would like to track" field. Ensure that the HTTP option is selected and click Continue. 7. Google Analytics will generate Javascript code. 8. If you are on BBNCv4, you will need to comment out the CDATA tags to work properly in BBNC. For example: - If you are on BBNCv5, you don't need to comment out the CDATA tags, just grab the javascript code, as is. 9. Paste the code on each NetCommunity Template that you want to use (this was the suggestion from Blackbaud), usually placed at the bottom of each one. I decided to place mine at the bottom of my footer part, which appears on every page of our site anyway; so that was easier. 10. Once you have placed the code on your site, you can go back to Google Analytics and check the status to see if your code was placed correctly. HOWEVER, you may not see the results right away. I tried changing the code around a bunch of times to make sure I could confirm the status through Google Analytics, and it took several hours (could take a day) before the status check really confirmed that the code was correct. (I just wasn't patient enough...) It is still a good idea to go back into the part/template that you placed the code on (after you have saved it the first time) and make sure BBNC didn't apply any odd formatting to it. This can happen from time to time with code you paste right into a part. Also, I had to later go back and change my website URL in Google Analytics to start with "https" instead of "http". This is because every time I would jump from an SSL page (login page, donation page, etc), I would get the IE pop up message warning that some of the content on the page was not secured. This was annoying to me, so I'm sure it was annoying users. This was an easy fix that I found while searching the Google Analytics help area. Here is the URL that I read about it on: http://www.google.com/support/googleanalytics/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=55483 Good luck!
