upgrade to FE but import only selected data?

We are finally looking at upgrading from AFN to FE, and I have a question I'm hoping someone can answer. We are not planning to convert our database, because we've been told there will definitely be conversion issues because we have (now inactive) funds that aren't in the right account structure for conversion and so will need to be cleaned up. Rather than going through that, we've decided to do a clean install, design a new chart of accounts, etc. In order to accommodate reporting for the current fiscal year (which we'll be in the middle of at conversion), we were told that we would key in beginning balances and put net activity into each account so that we can run full-year financial statements. However, I also see that Blackbaud consultants can provide a template to import data from AFN to FE. So, my question is this -- has anyone converted only part of a database over to FE through the import function? We would like to pull over last year's and this current year's history if at all possible, and since there is no data in the (now inactive) funds for the last two fiscal years, I'm curious whether we could just pull the data we need. Any ideas?

upgrade to FE but import only selected data?

The Carl Perkins Center in Jackson, TN upgraded to FE from AFN 6.4 and we save all of the data and can now pull reports for the years before FE. I would contact my sale rep. to see what is needed to convert the data with inactive account and/or funds, it should not be a problem. Warner
