I am still trying to populate the search screen with information from an excel spreadsheet. Basically what I need is: Open excel, search the last name field, then get the last name and search for it in the database. If found return names list. If not found add constituent. Eventually I'll be adding gifts from an excel sheet this way. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. VERSION: 7.70

To add gifts from an excel list you might be better off using import. Find some way to put IDs on your constituents in excel. You can make yourself an excel macro that looksup data via ODBC and populates an Import ID Field in your excel spreadsheet. You can also look at the plugin that David Zeidman developed (ID Lookup). Just google "Zeidman ID Lookup". I think that if you are adding all gifts from a datafile, might as well use the Import feature if it fits. It will save you an enormous amount of development time. Thanks William. You can look at IDLookup here: http://www.zeidman.info/downloads/IDLookup.htm This is the sort of thing it is used for quite regularly. Where you have a list of constituent names and addresses or email addresses but no constituent Id or import Id the IDLookup plugin will create a new file with the Ids attached as extra columns ready to be imported into RE. Feel free to contact me if you need any more information. David Zeidman Development
