Can anyone tell me if they have direct links to documents on BBNC? I am told we can only upload docs and then link to them, but the formatting is not the best when you do this. Please share your methods...

Hi Nora, My IT department worked out a way to link to a shared document area on the Uni servers- much quicker! I'm just away for the day but i'll ask them for the scope of work when I get in tomorrow morning. Suzi

What we have done is just create a shared directory underneath the "Program Files\Blackbaud\NetCommunity" folder on the web server that BBNC sits on. It is shared on the network so users in our Development office can copy/paste files up to that directory for use on the BBNC web site. Then in BBNC we just create a link to the shared document like this: http://yourdomain.com/NetCommunity/sharedfoldername/document.xls  That works great for us. --- Edited at 9/18/2007 11:44:04 AM by George Leventis

We do have direct links. It's a little weird to setup in v4.1 because it's acutally not an admin function like the image libraries are. What we did was create an document library part and set the roles on the page to only Site Administrators. Then we just go directly to that page and add/remove documents. when you open the file from this page it opens in a new window and you can cut and paste the url of doc and then use it where ever you want. It would be nice if BB did create some type of Document library within the Admin area that worked like the image library does. We've been using this for a year now. It has a few limitations, the file can't be over 10Mb for one but for most files thats not a problem. I also used the document library part and it seemed to work fine.  I noticed later however that when Firefox users would right-click and select "save as" to save the document that it would save as a blank Word document. That's even if it were an excel document, a PDF...etc.  It always would download as Document.doc.

I abandoned the document library after that.  Instead, I put the documents on another web server and linked to them. 

 New versions of Firefox and Netcommunity have come out since then, so perhaps this is not an issue, but I thought it may be helpful to point that out.
