    User Defined Rules

I am a big fan of user-defined business rules as they can be a great alternative to annotations on constituent records. If you allow other users to edit the linked dynamic query, it doesn't need to be perpetually maintained by the database manager. Here are the Business rules we currently have: Gift Entry Business Rules 1) Deceased donors Query: Deceased equals YES Message: This donor is deceased. Are you sure you want to credit a gift to this donor and not a spouse or estate? 2)Unsolicited gifts from Major Gifts Prospects. (to catch gifts received from major donors as a tribute gift, event or mailing. They will get a personalized letter, perhaps hand-delivered. The fundraisers specify which of their donors they wish to include by adding or removing a constituent attribute called "personalized giving") Query: Assigned Solicitor is one of AND constituent attribute = "personalized giving" Message: A Major Gifts fundraiser has established a relationship with this donor. Please give the tax receipt to the Major gifts department so it can be personalized. 3) Bounced Cheques (Oftentimes, donors will send a cheque but not indicate that it is to replace one that bounced. This is to make sure we don't receipt them again) Query: Constituent ID is one of Message: This donor has an outstanding donation as a result of a cheque returned by the bank. Please provide this cheque to the Finance department and receipt only the amount that it exceeds the previously receipted amount. Constituent Business Rule 1) Bounced Cheques Query: linked to same query as #3 above Message: same as #3 above Steven Best Finance Coordinator BC Cancer Foundation

    User Defined Rules

I have a business rule that when a new constituent is entered they must have a constituent code entered. The only problem is that you do not see this message until someone trys to open the record. Don Sabo Forum Health Youngstown, Ohio 330-884-4814 [Email Removed]

    User Defined Rules

Business Rules run on open and not on close so this type of business rule will never work. For something like this you can simply make constituent code a required field and then they can't close without adding a constituent code. Melissa S. User Defined Rules

The other option is to write a VBA business rule that would run on save. That way you could get it to check this when a constituent is created. Drew J.
