EE/FE Patch 15 Workstation Update Time!

I updated our EE/FE server on Saturday (9/1/07) and it took 1 hour and 15 minutes! This is a 2 CPU Xeon 3.6 MHz, 6 Gig RAM with 2000 Enterprise SQL machine and once I saw the server time I knew what was going to happen when our users got in on Tuesday morning. Our Business Manager worked on Labor day and emailed me that it took her X64 machine 2 hours and 7 minutes to update. (She was the ONLY user on the entire system, NC7 and FAWEB inclusive) This MADDNESS has got to stop! When is BlackBaud going to address this issue? By the time my users finish the update today, BlackBaud will issue Patch 16 (probably Friday). If other BB users of EE/FE are NOT having these time issues I would like to talk with them. I am running a single CPU Zeon 3.2 GHz, with 4 GB of RAM, SQL 2005, dual 80 GB SCSI disks in Raid 1 and it takes about 15 minutes for me to do my updates. The only thing this server does is SQL and EE. My workstations are all 3.2 GHz Win XP Pro SP2 and they update in around 15 minutes also. I am running a 100 Mb network on CAT5. I you want to do amy more comparing of environment, let me know. Norm Dunkin Director of Information Services Landmark Christian School [Email Removed]

We too are experiencing similar issues with the latest 2 EE patches. In addition to causing multiple other issues for which they are "working on a fix" (must restart IIS on Fac Acc or reboot the server multiple times daily, sudden inability to link records with RE, etc..) we are ALSO seeing the insanely long update times. This occurs on both server and workstation. We are also running an extremely beefy server, Xeon dual processor, 6 gig ram, Win2k SP4, enterprise SQL, gig backbone, Cisco switches, new, highend workstations, etc. What is UP with these 2 latest EE patches? Norm, what version of EE are you running?

Elizabeth, I am running EE 7.70.638.0013 I am on a Win 2003 server. We are running RE (7.81.1334.0024) on a separate server, Win 2000, very old but our RE database is fairly small. No issues with it or it's workstations updating either. When I purchased my new server last year I was told not to get a dual processor. Can't imagine this would be your problem though. I have also gone through all of the performance criteira that BB has suggested in their KB to keep performance optimal. We just did the EE update to patch 15 this morning. (Dell 2850, dual core 2.8 processor, 4 GIG RAM, Windows 2003, service pack 2, SQL 2005). The server only runs EE and RE. To update my local workstation (64 bit processor dual core 2.4 processor, 4 GIG RAM)took about 20 minutes. What I and others in my office have found is that if you open up any other program and try running it with the update running, the update slows to a snails pace. Perhaps that is the trouble others are having. I suggest rebooting, turn off your anti-virus, run the update, go get a cup of coffee or take a walk, and come back in about 20 minutes and see what's happening.
