    Blackbaud releasing info about organizations

Does anyone else have an issue with Blackbaud releasing info about who uses their products to sales companies?? I just received a call from Fusion Labs in Texas. Randy Gaulding said he found out we are a BB user from Blackbaud. Of course he was trying to sell a new grant package...I don't appreciate receiving sales calls for new products. (This isn't the first time this has happened! ...and the last time BB denied releasing the info) Angela Beaver The Community Foundation of Greater Lafayette 1114 State Street Lafayette, IN 47905 www.cfglaf.org

Angela - This surprises me because in the past, BB wouldn't even release info to us (as users) about who in our community was using RE products. The only time I've been able to get that info was when I attend a conference. In the conference materials, BB lists all attendees & their contact info. If a vendor was at the conference, they would have access to this info....so indirectly they might have been "given" your name, but so was everyone else who was at the conference. Assuming you've attended a conference recently, that is! If not, I would contact your account manager because I'm pretty sure it would be against their practices/procedures to do that? If a vendor has a management contract with BB they may have access to this forum and they could even have found you here. If they told me they were told I was a client by someone who works for Blackbaud I would ask specifically who told them and then go to that person and ask if providing your informaiton was within company policy or not. It would be interesting to see the privacy policies that Blackbaud has on this issue. Melissa S. They also could have gotten it from Blackbaud's website if you are listed as clients there or have any studies, etc. listed on their website. Someone saying they got it from Blackbaud doesn't necessarily mean that someone from Blackbaud gave them your information to use for solicitation purposes. (Example: The National Baseball Hall of Fame is on their homepage right now and in ads in many philanthropic periodicals - a solicitor could say that they got their information from Blackbaud) Laurel Quaintance Friends of Bassett Manager,Fund Development Services Cooperstown, NY 13326 [Email Removed]

While I do not appreciate them - solicitation calls are part of the job. I don't mind that BB list names etc in conference materials - that is how networks among ourselves are developed. If a vendor calls unsolicited - simply tell them you don't have time, did not solicit their call and do not want them to call again! Then report the vendor to your BB Account Rep. Scott A. Good point, Laurel! They have all sorts of "tricky" means to gather their info...a donor would probably say it's similar to our prospect research :) Tracie Cassidy Database Coordinator Seattle Children's Hospital Foundation (206) 987-6833 [Email Removed]
