Variables and passing Data from a subreport to the main report

I'm trying to create a variable formula and used the KB solution BB93424 and my Crystal Reference book, but I keeping getting a message that a number is needed. Does anyone know how to do these and wouldn't mind giving me a call or emailing offline? This is out of the scope of Blackbaud support, so any outside help would be most appreciated. Hi Elizabeth - I don't understand why "This is out of the scope of Blackbaud support"...this is exactly the kind of question the Crystal support team should be able to help you with? Did you contact Crystal support specifically - it's option 3 on the phone menu? I've talked to them many times & they are extrememly knowledgeable & helpful. If you went through "regular" support try calling again... Tracie Cassidy Database Coordinator Seattle Children's Hospital Foundation (206) 987-6833 [Email Removed]

Not everyone has crystal support - it depends on your support level. You can only call crystal support if you have that maintenance level. Melissa S. Check the datatype of the fields that you are using in your formula. It sounds like you've declared a numeric variable, but you're using a text or datetime field. You'll either need to change your numeric to the appropriate type, or convert the field to numeric. It would also help if you could post your formula. Drew J. I did not realize that crystal support was a separate maintenance level. Good to know! Tracie Cassidy Database Coordinator Seattle Children's Hospital Foundation (206) 987-6833 [Email Removed]

I felt I should chime in with a couple of clarifications. First, I really, really love the Crystal Support Team. Ron and Hannah are good buddies and I think they recognize me by the sound of my voice. They have gone above and beyond to help me or even fix/do reports, so they deserve all my praise. Whatever I was trying to do with this report and the variables was apparently beyond what they could assist me with. Knowing the amount of work they've done on my behalf, I'm not surprised to learn there are limits to what they can provide or walk me through. So, given that there are always several ways to ask the same question, I looked at the report from a different angle to avoid the issue entirely. I did get some good advice from others, but without the ability to lean on Ron and Hannah when I mess up, I just wasn't comfortable trying on my own. Thanks for all the input!
