I was curious to see if anyone ever had issues using Gift Attribute for bricks...At a previous organization we created two gift attributes, we were selling two different sizes of bricks... Each brick could have up to 3 Lines of text chosen by the donor with only so many charachters per line...we put a backslash between each line to designate the end of that particular line. example... Here is my brick\ my brick is good\ buy more bricks. ON the brick it would come out Here is my brick My brick is good Buy More Bricks We would then export that list into excel for the engravers. It's not terribly elaborate but it seemed to work well for us. Maryann Snyder

The only issue I would have with that is operators forgetting which slash to use and maybe putting in weird spaces at the beginning of a line. Example: \This is my Brick\ It's a good brick/Best brick ever This is my Brick It's a good brick/Best brick ever make sense? If you're the only one entering - you likely wouldn't have those issues. I like a new attribute for each line to have a clean break at the beginning. Laurel Quaintance Friends of Bassett Manager,Fund Development Services Cooperstown, NY 13326 [Email Removed]

It has been VERY helpful. What I would really like to see from Blackbaud (hint hint) is a place on the gift record to check if it has a naming opportunity or signage of any kind attached. From there you can specify whether it's a building, wing, room, plaque, brick, etc... then a place to actually put this in an organized format. I bet the group who needs this information could be a great resource for the R&D dept. Hillary Murphy Financial Administrator Phoebe Foundation

I'm surprised the Prospect tab hasn't been mentioned yet, but maybe it's because most users don't have access to that optional module. We use the Prospect tab (proposals, specifically) to keep track of our asks for naming opportunities (big things, like naming galleries, gardens, etc.). Right now, we have "Naming Opportunities" as a purpose, and we detail it further using the proposal name and proposal notes fields. Proposal is nice because there are plenty of queryable (is that a word?) fields in Prospect that can be tailored to meet the user's need. We use the proposals feature pretty heavily (including using it for our Annual Fund campaign!), so if anyone has any questions about it, I'd be happy to help! Julie D.
