    Tracking Naming Opportunites

This is my first post! My organization is going to be tracking several naming opportunities (ex: garden, tile, brick, etc.) and we want to generate lists of constituents and keep track of what has been named for newsletter lists & fulfillment purposes. We're considering using an attribute "Naming Opp" and putting the specific opp in the description - thoughts? Any other suggestions? Does this sound like a good idea. Thanks! Hi Darcy, We did the "brick thing" recently and the information was placed on the attribute tab of each record. It works OK I guess. For some reason I'm not really in love with the idea, but maybe that's just me trying to block out that whole project! Also, you might want to make it a gift attribute and attach it to the actual gift that got them the naming opportunity. Either way will work, but there might be a MUCH better way that neither of us has considered. Good Luck!!! Cheryl Hardt Donor Relations Saint Joseph's Mercy Foundation Atlanta, GA [Email Removed]

What we recently did for bricks---and some lucky person get's to go back and do this historical updating for all the bricks in our pathway---yuk....is create a paver line 1, paver line 2 and paver line 3 atribute to capture the exact text per line so it can be easily exported to the company who does our brick engraving. We know if it's a paver gift we need to track those 3 attributes. It doesn't solve all the other naming opportunity/recognition issues but it works ok. I'd love to see a "new" standard part of RE created to track naming opportunities this way for buildings, bricks, rooms, etc. I could see this being a very used and functional addition to the application. So many of us use relationships or addressee/salutation or attributes as work arounds. It could be the best new addition to RE in years! Hillary Murphy Financial Administrator Phoebe Foundation

How about using Appeal? Consider each naming oppt. as an appeal?

I don't recommend appeal at all. I see this offered as an option so often and it only goes to show how few people are using appeal in it's most clear sense - "how did you ask for the gift?" You might get paver gifts from email solicitations, direct mail, newsletters, personal asks, etc. How can anyone not want to be tracking appeal responses and measuring success? Attributes are perfect for these types of "additional" information needed for gifts. They are queryable, exportable, useable in Mail, etc. Melissa S. Our organization sees this as a separate database. Because we need to track all Open naming opportunities and Confirmed naming opportunities. There is no place to track Open naming opportunities in RE. We track naming opportunities for buildings, rooms, equipment, etc. by $$ amount. I created a database in Access to track the Recognition and all naming opportunities. Becky Creamer Eisenhower Medical Center [Email Removed]

We've set up naming opportunities as constituent organizations. We track donors with relationships. I'm not sure how we're tracking whether they are still open. We also NOT doing something like a brick program. Drew J. Drew Allen Children's Hospital of Philadelphia [Email Removed] Check out the user run RE Forum at http://www.blackbus.org/ . Interesting...just curious, how do you identify how much (dollar amount) a building, or a patient room was confirmed for? Becky Creamer Eisenhower Medical Center [Email Removed]

Just an idea - if you have the event module you could create an event with 'seats' or capacity controls that would allow you to see whether or not an opportunity is 'open' Registration Units could be the 'price' to tie to the opporunity. Our campaign coming up is going to have a ton of naming opportunities. I may start testing this to see how it may work. Melissa S. you could even use the attributes in the participant record to record the specific text for some naming ops. (Line 1, Line 2, etc.) Laurel Quaintance Friends of Bassett Manager,Fund Development Services Cooperstown, NY 13326 [Email Removed]

Okay. More details, we have several attributes on the Donor Recognition constituent. There is one for the minimum gift amount, the recognized gift amount, and the recognition status. Status is not being used. Drew J. Drew Allen Children's Hospital of Philadelphia [Email Removed] Check out the user run RE Forum at http://www.blackbus.org/ . I'm not sure if my idea would help you - but this is how I would build my naming ops.

If there are multiple opportunities in large quantities (Like 500 bricks at the same price) I would build it as 1 unique event with participant attributes for text (May have to look into multiples if participants 'purchase' more than one brick.
I would likely combine opportunities if there aren't many to track at multiple levels.
Registration fee unit would be the price/location of the brick (If there is a hierarchy) I would make the 'Tables or Sections' for the event be named each Naming Opportunity Level

    Example:
Brick on the East Walkway - $1000
    20 seats
Brick on the South Walkway - $500
    30 seats

Then you would 'seat' each donor when you link their gift and put in the registration (when you process the gift)

You would be able to see what opportunities are available in this format by running an event management - canned report - seating arrangements

    Just my preliminary thoughts

You can also use registration fees to track the numbers of each opportunity - but it won't validate against anything (Capacity) to let you know you've oversold unless you're
creating 1 unique event for each opportunity.

Hope this makes sense... Laurel Quaintance

Ok - multiple brick purchase could be a Guest - and then use the attributes on that participant record... :-) Laurel Quaintance Friends of Bassett Manager,Fund Development Services Cooperstown, NY 13326 [Email Removed]
