I am interested in hearing about any Maternity leave benefits that other nonprofits might be giving their staff. I am also interested in hearing from other nonprofits about the number of vacation days given to staff annually. Thanks for any responses.

Our agency does not have a Maternity leave policy, so it is treated as FMLA, using any available paid time off, starting with sick pay first. Unpaid time is available after all paid time is exhausted, and at the discretion of management and the board. Our paid time off policy for FT employees is 13 vacation days per year (cannot be carried over), 10 sick days per year (can be carried over to 200 hours, then can be cashed out at 1/2 value over 200 hours), and 1 work-life balance day per quarter. We get ten paid Holidays per year, 10 to 20 Vacation days based on longevity, (less than 5, over 15 with steps up inbetween)and 12 Sick days per year. You can accrue up to 520 hours of each vacation and sick. We allow the accrual to cover for FML which is what maternity falls under. We are 95% female organization so this is important to our staff.

We give 2 - 3 weeks for a new employee based upon their postition within the organization. After 3 years they earn another week. We have 12 sick days and 3 personal days. We are too small to comply with FMLA so we have maternity leave as using all sick, vacation and personal days. Jeff Young CFO Diabetes Research Institute Foundation 1-800-321-3437

The California State Parks Foundation provides 12 holidays per year and 3-5 weeks vacation, depending on seniority and level of responsibility. We are less than 50 employees, but we have instituted our own version of FMLA, which includes special circumstances for Pregnancy Disability Leave, which is mandated by state law. Employees can use sick and vacation times to supplement the leave time for birth and adoption. Michael Bankert VP, Finance & Administration California State Parks Foundation

This is going to make you all sick. As a full-time salary employee here I STARTED with 27 vacation days, 12 sick days, 11 holidays and 5 emergency leave/bereavement days. I can't use any for the first 90 days but you begin accruing from day 1. :) Melissa S. We get 15 vacation days (20 after 4 years, 25 after 10 years), 8 sick days, 1 floating holiday, 11 holidays. We are under 25, but follow FMLA, but use the hours accrued for paid leave time, starting with sick. Unpaid leave is at the descretion of our CEO and board, although when it is a planned leave, such as maternity, the organization attitude is to make that happen. We also have a child in the workplace policy, where with planning, approval by the supervisor and the CEO, the infant can be brought to work for up to six months following the return of the employee from her/his leave. This of course requires major support of the agency as a whole. Romy Fitschen Fiscal Director MI Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence [Email Removed]
