Conversion PR 6 to PR 7??? Did you, would you

We currently have PR6 and FE7 with things running fairly smoothly. We are considering upgrading PR to 7 and of course, Blackbaud assures me that the bugs in PR 7 have been fixed and they are not encountering any problems. I would love to hear your opinions relating to PR7. Thanks so much.

We converted from PR6 to PR7 in November, 2006 - putting it off as long as possible. In retrospect, I would have much preferred to stay on PR6. Not sure if some of the issues were due to poor or uninformed decisions made during conversion but as part of conversion I had to manually touch each employee record at least 2X (I think it was actually three times but I have blocked much of that week from my memory). With the rollover to a new calendar year, I had to manually update each employee record again (2X) since the promised global updates did not work. As I told Support - it was a good thing that we have relatively few employees (less than 50). On the other hand - perhaps having more employees would make the "improvements" in PR7 worth the effort - they are not particularly valuable to us. For W-2's, there were problems, again I would have been more comfortable with PR6. I eventually worked most problems out on my own since the "expert" support person apparently knew less than I did and the support response time was disappointing - if I had waited for support I would have missed the W-2's deadline.

Don't do it! Wait as long as you possibly can. I have open cases over 200 days old. It will only make your life miserable. There is nothing better, faster or easier in payroll 7.

I have not and do not plan on converting any time soon. We create well over 2000 paychecks a month, run at least 5 payrolls a month, and have 1327 currently active employees. A BB consultant would like to do a test conversion to show us the benefits of having PR7 but we just converted to FE and are working out the bugs with that conversion. Not so much bugs but still setting up the systems COA, reports, and new users in view only.

Thank you for replying. I think at this point we are going to hold off on the conversion to PR7 until next summer. Specifically since it will continue to be supported by BB until 2008. Thanks again. Audrey

I also would like to convert but because of the horror stories such as one of your replies I have hesitated. I think I will consider converting at the end of 2007. Hopefully by that time it will be running more smoothly. Please let me know if you decide to convert earlier than summer of 2008. Are you using Student Billing 7? My email address is [Email Removed].

Blackbaud has offered to do a test conversion then a web conference on what our organization that would show us what we would gain from converting to Payroll 7. We have not agreed to do this because we just moved to FE and have a lot of reports and things to work out on the new system. You migh want to ask them if they would be willing to do the same for you. I wish you good luck.
