    Contact attributes

for those of you using contact attributes to include or exclude contacts from marticular mailings can you tell me how you have it set up.

For example, for our annual report would we code the organization as "send annual report" and the contact(s) who gets it as well or do you just code the contact(s)?

Thanks in advence for your help.

Melissa *** I can spell, I just can't type. Where is spell check?

In the past we have coded the organisation and then used address attributes for the contacts. It's worked well because if it is for something like an annual report that will also go to individuals then the coding for the individual and organisation can be the same. The address attributes have worked well because they can be seen from the contact's individual constituent record if they have one and the mailings are set to look for them where the contact type doesn't apply.

    Contact attributes

    Hi Melissa,
We use address attributes for our various org CONTACTS in order to target mailings to certain individuals within an org. Therefore, we add the attributes to the contact address only. Address Processing looks at the contact's attributes to include or exclude mail.

If we just coded the org's address with attributes, we would lose our flexibility in coding and getting as specific as we'd like to the individual by using the mail and export processes.

Why contact address attributes and not just contact attributes? Melissa S. Graves Director of Development Services The Village for Families and Children mgraves @ villageforchildren.org

Melissa, I use the address attributes for contact also. In mail there si a Contact Address Attributee button that allows a lot of flexibility in mailing to contacts. I can't find anywhere that allows that same flexibility with just contact attributes. Jo Jo Ward Neuhaus Education Center (713) 664-7676 ext. 233 [Email Removed]

Can someone clarify something for me.

If I use contact address attributes on contacts but some of my organizations only have one contact do they still need that attribute. What happens in Mail if no contact has the address attribute - it can only go to the organization as a whole with no contact type or can it then go to someone with a particular contact type (primary)?

I was thinking that I had to put the attribute on every contact but then I thought I read here that I did not have to. Can someone clarify? Melissa S. Graves
