Divorced family wants 1 gift to cover both parents

We have 2 divorced families at our school where the mom has sent in a check to the Annual fund that she wants to reflect as both a gift from both her and her ex-husband. Does anyone else have this happen and how do you handle? I would like to enter a soft credit to the father's record, but my boss wants me to split the gift between the 2 records, after finding out from the mother how much $$ to put on each record. I think either method will work, but would like to know what other schools are doing. Thanks! Karen McAlinden Database Manager St. Martin's Episcopal School

The hard credit must go to the person who wrote the check. Under soft credit in the donors record allocate soft credit at 50% to the donor and 50% to the ex-spouse. [Email Removed] Chadwick School, California
