We would like to know the differences and/or advantages/disadvantages for using student-based student billing vs. payer-based student billing.

We currently bill the students. I prefer seeing who was billed by looking at the student rather than the payer because the students are at the top of my mind and not necessarily the payer. I also like to see how much is owing per student, not necessarily per payer. This is especially the case when grandparents might be paying in addition to the parent. We also make sure that under each student we assign a payer such as the parent or grandparent. We also ensure that if we know the proportion of how much each individual is paying we change the percentage accordingly. If you would want to see how much a parent owes the open-item Report allows you to select how you want to see the billing, by choosing ownership or assignment. I believe depending on the way you bill students, it will impact any bills you send to the parents. I would check knowledgebase for that. Hope that helps.
