    Create an education "summary" tag

[I'm reposting my question in hopes of mabye getting some sort of reply (it went unanswered last time)] We're trying to create an education "tag" which summarizes the person's education (in our institution only) using abbreviations. Example: D'60 M'62 would mean they got their undergraduate degree in 1960 and their medical school degree in 1962. Since this utilizes data from multiple education degrees it can't be pulled directly out of RE (unless we restructured our entire coding system), so we created the "tags" outside of RE and imported them as an Addressee/Salutation type called "class affiliation". It works well EXCEPT when we want to export it -- since it's an Addressee/Salutation the system wants to specify you to choose an "otherwise" selection -- so if the class affiliation addressee doesn't exist on someone's record it will export out another name format. We could create the tag as an attribute but really liked it as an Addr/Sal because it is very visible there and reminds the person setting up the record to add it at the time of record creation -- vs. being buried in attributes. Does anyone know how to get around the issue with exporting Addr/Sals, or have you created a similar education tag in another manner? I haven't tried this, but it looks like you can specify the same "addressee/salutation" type in both places. So essentially you would say to use the "class affiliation" if it is present and otherwise use "class affiliation", which should give you what you are looking for if everything works logically. How many records do not have the addressee/salutation? I would run a query and work through the query until I had all the add/sals in. We are a merged school, and we must address 3 parent school alumni, as well as SAS alumni. We set up an "Addressee Sch/Yr" addressee type. When I do an export and choose "All Additional Addressee" types (under Addressee/Salutations) and choose to export only 1 type of addressee, I get the addressee sch yr on those that have it and blanks on the rest. This may be what you need to do. You may contact me directly and I will be happy to help you. [Email Removed] 931-968-0210 ext 3223

We use the Suffix 2 field to add our affiliation "tags". We are an international school with campuses in France, Spain, Italy, and China, so we have tags like F82 or C96. For parents, the tags have a P on the end (I04P). Past faculty have an F on the end (S69F) We have a few alumni who attended two countries, and many parents of multiple alums or alums who are now parents. For them, we leave their primary alffiliation in Suffix 2 and type out the other tags in Maiden Name. We set up primary addressees that include the maiden name and suffix 2 fields as necessary. This is a system that was set up by the non-profit consultant company we work with. It's not perfect, but really close to it. The only real problem we've found is when women have multiple codes but want their maiden names to show up in how we address them. In that case we just enter it as a middle name.
