    Board of Directors

I was wondering if anyone tracks their Board of Directors and committee's in RE and how you handle things like years installed, titles, committees, officers, etc. Do you just create and use constituent attributes or has anyone found a better way, already built into the system? THANKS!

We have a constituent code of "Trustee" that we add to the person's record when they become a Trustee. This allows us to add start and end dates of their term. We also have constituency codes for those who are on special committees.

We use attributes for this kind of information. I've always thought constituent codes were for the primary relationship, i.e. who they are (individual, corporation, etc.), so that's how I've used them. In Attributes, category=board of directors, description= current or former, date=term beginning date, comments include particular position such as vice chair, etc. etc. Lucile Barbati Donor Services Coordinator West Valley Fine Arts 525 N. I agree with you about the cons codes, though it might work for a history of committes. I figured it was going to end up as Attributes for the most part, but I was kind of hoping RE had existing fields somewhere, similar to the business /education buttons where there are extra fields... Kinda relevant for N4P's, I would think, but alas, attributes, here I come...

Cons Code should be used for primary relationship to your organization and depending on your definitiion a Trustee or Board Member that would be the primary relationship. We do have a Board Member constituent code and a Former Board Member Constituent Code. We do this so we can use these as gift constituent codes and track giving on these categories. We use attributes to track committee and former committee memberships. *** I can spell, I just can't type. Where is spell check? Melissa S. Check the Forum archives this topic was discussed some time ago and there were a few very creative suggestions. The one that sticks out was creating an organziation record called Board of Trustees, and then using relationships to link the board memebers to the record. This was used for committee relationships as well. Use reciprocal realtionsips and the from and to dates. I have used cons codes before for trustee and former trustee, but am considering moving to attributes - because all of these people have another realtionship to the school. Using attributes makes them easier to filter in and out of the system as a whole. Hope this helps. [Email Removed]
