    Username not propagating

I have added a new username and changed the passwords on two others. The changes aren't available on client machines three hours later. Does anyone know why or what I can do to force the update?

Hi Darryl, Are you doing this from within Raiser's Edge via "Admin" - "Security" and creating the new user and/or editing an existing user changing password there? If you did it via SQL, do it via RE itself. Only other think I can think the users may need need to completely exit and sign out of RE and then try it again. The changes should take affect immediately; if they don't, suggest you contact Blackbaud support. Thanks. Beverly

This is from within RE:Admin - Security. I'm going to try stopping and restarting the server.

Did this work for you? I always have this problem and I am not a techie but our IT department has to do something on the machine to give permissions to the database itself. This means that my users cant use any machine they want even if the machine has RE on it and they have an RE user ID - they must be defined on that machine as having access to the SQL database or something of the like. Maybe someone with more techie knowledge can explain this better. *** I can spell, I just can't type. Where is spell check? Melissa S. My mistake. It turned out that the passwords I was giving these new user accounts were more than 8 characters long. RE only records the first eight, (though it doesn't tell you that anywhere that I can find.) So then when you try to sign on with 9 characters, it gives you an error.

Melissa, You are talking about workstation permissions for network users. It is quite unfortunate that RE requires some pretty strong permissions on the workstation, and that requires a user to have a profile on any workstation they plan to access RE from (that's how we do it, anyway). It's completely separate from the RE username/password (and a constant pain for me and the users). If you don't have appropriate permissions on the workstation and attempt to run RE, the error message doesn't give you a good indication of what the problem is. I forget the exact wording, but no where does it say anything like "You do not have permission to run RE on this pc".

Actually - I recall the error saying that the username and/or password is not valid. Which was frustrating because I would return to my machine to be sure I entered them properly as users and I would continue to get this error. We now know about it and IT always forgets to do this when they set up a new user with RE but I remind them after the user can't log in and they know what to do. *** I can spell, I just can't type.
