FE Response time compared to AFN

Financial Edge response time we are experiencing is significantly degraded compared to AFN. Has Blackbaud communicated any comparative information on what users should expect? Any insights on this will be appreciated as this has become a volatile issue!!

FE Response time compared to AFN

We did not see any substantial increase in response time when we upgraded. we only use FE with the AR and CR module.

FE Response time compared to AFN

Thank you for your insight... We're using G/L, AP, AR, FA, etc. Are you using a local server (LAN)? Can you tell me more about your configuration, # of accounts etc.? Thank you,

We do use GL AP AR (not FA) and CR. But no payroll etc. yes we have a very local server on LAN. We have about 8 years of data so for AR it works when you go way back but that’s to be expected for that. I summarized a year or two recently but it did not affect speed. AP etc works fine which is the big input item. We don’t have a "good" server. We cant even load Raid 5 on it (which is an auto option of the windows server program) since the processors aren’t capable. We plan to get a new server sometime soon. I would be suspect of your server and perhaps then your configuration (network speed). We have about 650 accounts in our big company with all the funds. We also have 2 smaller companies. The speed of the response for both of those companies is about the same as for the big company for AP (AR aside) so I think our speed is okay. Im the big user and very seldom see it slow down.... (from the LAN)

FE Response time compared to AFN

We use GL/ AP/ Cash Receipts. We had converted from AFN to FE about 18 months ago. No response time complaints. None. By selecting Microsoft from Sybase, I think BB moved a step in right direction. Here is some comparison. AFN - Compaq ML370 server - 750 MHz processor, 512 MB memory, 10 MB network with 3 routers, 50 GB Cost $ 10,000.00 Users are Okay with the performance. FE - Compaq DL360, Dual 3.0 GHz processors, 2 GB memory, 1.0 GB network, Single router - Cost $ 3,000.00 Users are very happy with the performance. This is comparing apples and oranges but it is a fact of life with technology and cannot meaningfully compare one site to another. After saying all this, our AFN server had Windows 2000 server with Sybase ASA and our new Server has Windows 2003 server with MSDE with latest patches.
