    Parent and Subsidiary Organization Addresses

I am looking for a consistent way of entering parent organizations and their subsidiary organizations so that the parent org name is always printed when addressing subsidiary organizations. To illustrate, if the Blake Library is a part of Arman University, all of our mail to the library should go to: Blake Library Arman University 1111 Main Street City, State 11111 In the past, we entered "Arman University" in the address lines section of Blake Library's record. But since we get regular NCOA updates, the "Arman Univerity" is deleted periodically from address lines. We have also considered using the "parent corporation" field or a special relationship code, but when we mail individual constituents whose primary business is the library, we cannot include the University relationship in the export. Tried and true solutions to this problem are greatly appreciated! -Tracy Luehr Acton Institute www.acton.org  --- Edited at 8/23/2006 2:32:07 PM by Tracy Luehr

Tracey - this is exactly our problem. Did you ever get a good solution for it? Thanks for any info... Jordan Young DBA, Salzburg Seminar www.salzburgseminar.org  --- Edited at 2/12/2007 5:03:39 PM by Jordan Young

    Parent and Subsidiary Organization Addresses

I have a solution - not sure if it is the best one. Let's take Fidelity Investments Charitable Gift Fund as an example. On the parent corp (Fidelity) record I have 2 addresses. Primary business address: Line 1: 82 Devonshire St. CSZ: Boston MA 02109-3605 Parent Corp Address (I created an address type for this) Line 1: Fidelity Investments Charitable Gift Fund Line 2: 82 Devonshire St. CSZ: Boston MA 02109-3605 The main mailing address for Fidelity is just 82 Devonshire because the org name is included in the address already. Whenever I add a new donor advised fund (John Smith Family Fund) at Fidelity I share the address with the parent corp version of the address so that it has the name in it. Even better, if Fidelity ever moved because this address is shared, I would only need to change the parent corp version of the address and ALL shared addresses could change automtically. WOO HOO. *** I can spell, I just can't type. Where is spell check? Melissa S. We use the Parent Corp. field for all the church classes and groups associated with a particular church. We do not create our mailing lists through Mail. We export the information we want, and then merge it into word documents. The Parent Corp field is available in export, and we've had no problem with creating address that read as follows: ABC Sunday School Class First UMC - Waco 123 Main St Waco, TX 76708 If there is a contact person for the class/group we also include that. It would appear below the name of the church. We do not use Mail mainly because I have not yet figured out how to get the results we are currently getting through export.
