We have held up on the payroll conversion because of all the problems other users have experienced with the product and have shared on this forum. I am holding off until I start hearing that things are working. I too am interested in whether or not all the problems brought up here have been fixed.

I am glad to see I am not the only one who is not too sure about upgrading payroll. From what I understand we may be the biggest users in payroll that Blackbaud has, we have over 1500 employees who we pay each month and we run three pays, one biweekly and two different monthly ones.

Marc, Seeing how no one answered the questions I asked. We have decided to start looking at other payroll vendors. I wish you good luck if you stay with BB payroll. And if you do happen to upgrade to version 7 let me know how it works for you.

Payroll 7.6 does it fix problems

We converted to 7.6 and have successfully completed our first payroll. We have about 250 employees, 150 salary and 100 hourly. The payroll process is quite a bit different from 6 and requires some getting used to, but it does appear to be working. Configuration took longer than I had expected and there were some conversion issues.

Terry, About how long did it take to run a payroll? Right now we are upset with the fact that we usually spend about three to four days running one. Especially when we have found that it is faster to use an access databse for time input and then import it into BB.

Several of the employee pay schedules did not convert properly. It took us about three days to process the payroll, but I feel some of the excess time could be attributed to us feeling our way through the process. Be prepared for alot of stress especially if you have a short time between conversion and your first payroll.

Terry, Thank you for the information. We have not had a payroll run smoothly in a long time so I already have a lot of stress during runs. I feel that BB payroll ws not designed for colleges to use because as a college we have so many people who only teach a class here and there or may teach five classes during a month and then none for three months. the only we have to pay these peopl is through other pays which are very cumbersome to use.

There is an option to pay only in periods with specific dates. You can then select either amount or percentage.

Payroll 7.6 does it fix problems

We have been using the Payroll version 7.52 module for about 3 months now. We did not covert anything, just started fresh at the end of the first quarter, entering totals in history for everyone. We have not had any big problems at all. We have about 45 employees, some are hourly, some are salaried. Right now, the time and attendance is giving me problmes because it shows the total accrued time for the year, rather than as it is accrued. We will be installing another patch next week, along with the 7.6 install. We were afraid to do this because of all the hype on the forum, but our experience has been really painless and pleasant. Payroll 7.6 does it fix problems

We installed payroll 7.6 in June and ran our regular monthly payroll with minor problems. We then switched to semi-monthly payroll and have been plagued with nothing but problems. I have yet to see any improvement over payroll 6. My advice would be not to convert to payroll 7.6 at this time. Everything in payroll 7.6 takes twice as long to do with no real pluses. I create a new case every day.

Terry, Thank you for the infromation. We don't plan on converting for quit a while maybe not for a year. I believe that our sales person knows that our huge payroll of more then 1500 checks a month has to run smoothly because we don't have enough time between pays to fix problems. I wish yo teh best of luck with the new payroll system.
