    Linking Addresses

I'm new to the forum so your help is appreciated! Can someone verify for me. If a spouse record exist on the same record and on the address tab the "check mail" is checked, does this mean that mail will be sent to the primary constituent as well as the spouse. I noticed on other records that the spouse record is grayed out and the "check mail is unchecked. I have a huge mailing going out and I would like to be sure that only one piece of mail will be going to primary household. Is there a solution to fixing these records with the spouse checked mail. Thanks for help.

Mary, There are a lot of moving parts to learn about with respect to addresses and spouses. Question one is does this spouse have a separate record (do you see an ID in the ID field when you open the spouse?) If you do not then they do not have their own record and you can only mail to them separately if do a relationship mailing from mail or export which is probably not what you are doing. If you are doing a constituent export or constituent mailing you do not need to worry about non-constituents. If the spouse has own record then their address is probably linked with the spouse and unchecking send mail will uncheck it on both. Do not do that! You should probably go to knowledgebase to read more on linked addresses. If that have separate records and are linked as spouses then Raisers Edge (or you) have assigned one of the records as Head of Household. In mail and in export you have on the very first screen in the setup the options you have for managing head of household (HOH). To prevent duplicate mailings you would need to choose to mail to HOH or mail to first found - but never BOTH. (again - go to Knowledgebase to learn more on Head of Household) Good Luck. *** my spelling is fine, it's my typing that stinks. Where is spell check? Melissa S. Melissa, Thanks for your assistance. I have further checked out the knowledge base on this matter. Quite confusing. Regards, Mary
