I do most of my Reports through Cyrstal Reports and then put them in Custom Reports in Education Edge. AS you know when running a custom report it uses an export then puts it into your custom report. I have many reports that show data on all of our students. It is by academic year, so roughly there are about 1000 students that I am exporting along with some data on the student. We have pretty up to date servers and computers and it takes about 3-4 min to do the export. When you are a an administrator of a school you need reports on the go, 3-4 min may not seem very long to some, but it is when you are on your way to a meeting waiting for a report to come out. Does anyone out there have the same issue and what have you done? I called the helpdesk and they sent me a list of things I can do to help performance issues, but that did not help. We have just converted a couple of months ago and I use Crystal as well. I ran into the same thing. My "fix" was to have the export use an query to "bucket" the information and then have a seperate report and seperate db file. Yes; it is a pain in the tush but it makes the users happy to be able to get a lot of informaiton for just the students they need.
