    Initial Security Setup

I am working on a conversion to FE, EE, and RE. Has anyone created any templates that I could use to easily setup user security? I am surprised these aren't available through Blackbaud. We are trying to set up security for several hundred users. Any help would be appreciated!

We have converted last year to FE and I think that the conversion program converts security also. You may convert on a different machine as standalone program and test it before you finalize your schedule. We do not have much complexity in converting from Sybase ASA to MS MSDE, but I do not know much about larger databases using MS SQL server. Have you chaecked with BB Systems Analysts yet on this issue?

We converted to FE last year and I think the security aspects did NOT convert. We are a little bitty company, but had to re-enter the security aspects. It can be a pain, but there are global features you can enable or disable. The rub comes when you want to customize access within modules.

Thanks for the input. I guess we are not doing a conversion as much as a new implementation. I think the real issue is to customize the groups and determine what permissions each user needs. I was hoping for a large spreadsheet listing functionality and group access that I could lay my users into. I could then either tweek the group or move users to other, more appropriate groups. BB Consulting did not know of any "template" to help us with this task.

Though I am not qualified to provide any answer because our foundation has a small number of users and we use MSDE. Logically, if you use MS SQL server, can't you write samll SQL script to import the users to appropriate table(s) from a spreadsheet or CSV file? I know it is pain but it may help migrate users to logical groups. Again, I am not too familiar with that scenario.
