We are implementing FAWEB for the first time this Fall and it works fine for our PC users but not for our Mac users running OS 8.x-9.x. When the user clicks on the gradebook, a "loading" message comes up and hangs there. Does anyone have any tips on how to fix this? The Macs are running IE 5.1. Barbara

We had this problem initially and updating the Mac to the newest IE 5.1 fixed the problem. We also got the loading when clicking Attendance. The problem was that twe had ALL marked in the Customize setting and the Attendance module would pull of the entire attendance for the marking quarter. Changing this to One Week fixed the problem. Could it be the amount of data that is trying to load is causing a timeout situation? Just a thought.

Actually it was a web server setting that was causing the problem. Web applications typically don't download anything so I'm suprised about your attendance solution. --Barbara

Anyone monitoring this thread... We continue to have excessively slow Faweb access from Mac clients. Access is much slower with added instability (hanging during saves losing work at times). This is even after several attempts to fix things through tech support suggestions. This is true to for another school I've been talking to. What has your experience with Mac access been? There is a User meeting in Mpls next week and I will bring this concern to the group. We are experiencing the same slowness from Mac clients at school as well as from dial-up at home. We are having an outside consultant collect data from our LAN and WANs to see if there is a "hidden" issue. Huge concerns by the upper division as in January all students receive comments and faculty are very concerned about the amount of time needed to complete comments. The hanging and losing work is also an issue. There is some comfort in knowing other schools are experiencing the same, as I don't feel Blackbaud is considering this an issue. Marilyn

Hello friends, I have been back and forth with M. Moulton after meeting him of the forum, and we have shared our woes and mac issues with each other and with blackbaud. Blackbaud knows of this issue for certain, and they used to tell me that we were the only school reporting such problems. Please contact them so that they do not think this is the case! We are in our second year and have complained of slow mac access and other issues extensively. They sent a team of three bbaud support people onsite to us in the fall, but ultimately they did not have the answers to explain fully the problems, nor have they identified at the programming level ways to remedy the mac issues and provide a stable, swift solution. I URGE anyone having these issues to contact Jerry Zink, whom Michael has contacted and with whom I have had extensive conversations. His extension at blackbaud is 3700. Feel free also to contact me directly at 336-288-2007 ext 131. My hope is that with enough consistent pressure from enough users we will see results and solutions. Thanks. Spencer Edmunds

We have been experiencing this issues and more by MAC users for over a year now. Most of our MAC users have given up and move to a PC around grades and comments time. Our MAC users are on the latest operating system and web browser version. Blackbaud has still not resolved our issues. Are you still having performance problems?

Judith You stated that the Macs are on the latest OS, does that mean they are on OSX?? or still Classic OS?? Does anyone know if these issues reside with Classic OS or also on OSX?? Mark --- Edited at 6/11/2004 3:02:36 PM by MP

Did you try Sharon's 9/29/03 suggestion so that you are not trying to download from Blackbaud server all attendance periods?? MP --- Edited at 6/11/2004 3:08:51 PM by MP

All faculty use MACs and those who used the online grading book experience very slow openings for recording grades and there have been timeout concerns. We haven't upgraded to the latest FAWEB version and are still on 1.02.54 -- somehow I missed there was a upgrade and when I discovered a problem with transferred students not showing up in a class and this was addressed in the update, decided not to upgrade during grading time .... too many possible issues. OS is 9.2.2 and we use IE 5.1.6. We have provided Citrix connections and that works over our WAN and from home. Many faculty write their comments in a Word Processor and cut/paste into FAWEB. On dial-up there are too many issues with access rates that faculty with dial-up won't use. There were problems 4th quarter with cable access, which were the first. I don't know what was happening with them. Are you at the latest build for FAWEB?
