I'm trying to set up remote users using a VPN. I got one to work but the second is causing me problems. I install the program and start it, entering a user name and password, then get an error message. It looks like this: Unable to establish database connection. [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL server does not exist or access denied. Native error:17 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen (Connect ()). Native error: 1326 Does anyone have any advice for me on how to fix this? Blackbaud won't help me since the "don't support remote access via a VPN". Could it possibly be related to Windows XP? The machine I'm having trouble with has XP and all the others have 2000. That's the only difference I can see. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to email me. Thanks! It could be that the internet connection firewall is switched on in XP and It could be blocking the SQL traffic. To check if the firewall is on, right Click your VPN connection and click properties. Click the advanced tab and check to see if Internet connection firewall is on. If it's on, turn it off and try connecting again (you'll need to restart the VPN connection). Obviously I'm not stating that you should leave it switched off but I think this is what's causing the problem. There's a Q article on the MS website that explains which ports you need to open on the firewall to allow access to SQL server
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;287932
There's also a good reference on ICF at

Good Luck! Thanks, Dan

Don't forget that the server that hosts raisers edge will have an IP address e.g. 10.0.0.1 and a human name e.g. server01 Raisers edge uses human names, BUT remote computers will not have these human names, solution: add "10.0.0.1 server01" to your hosts file. for more info google add line to hosts file
