    Crystal XI Linking Problem

I may not understand the question, but I do work with Crystal. The database tables are linked by equal joins when added to the report;however, you can go into linking and change the joins. It is cumbersome to do this everytime and I always end up changing the joins so I understand that it is a pain. Nora Isaac Manager, Information Technology The ALS Association, Greater Phila. Crystal XI Linking Problem

But the tables weren't linked like that in 8.5. We've only discovered this since upgrading to Crystal XI. We shouldn't have to go in and change the joins, should we? Becky Creamer Eisenhower Medical Center [Email Removed]

    Crystal XI Linking Problem

Well, I guess they have to choose a default. I don't know if there is a way to change this. Any Crystal gurus out there who can address this? Nora Isaac Manager, Information Technology The ALS Association, Greater Phila. Chapter www.alsphiladelphia.org  [Email Removed]

    Crystal XI Linking Problem

Inner (or equal) joins are simply more common than any other type of join. Left outer joins are the second most common. Since Crystal had to make a choice, it makes sense that they would choose the more common join. If you join two tables in MS Access, it also uses an inner join as the default. The behavior in Crystal 8.5 was just wrong, and I was glad to see that it was fixed in Crystal XI. Having to go in and adjust a few join types is a small price to pay for having software that actually works correctly. Drew J.
