    Creating a prospect research/review system

We are working on prospect research for a Capital Campaign we are about to begin. Any thoughts on how to organize my prospects for effective meetings.

Man, I could write a thesis. We are a few months into a $100M capital campaign over 5 years. We have moved forward with our sophistication of RE in ways I had never thought possible. Everything from how we track accounts, use reports, develop reports, assign prosepcts, etc. The best place to start is to look at existing donors with which you have a good relationship. It is way easier to leverage a second donation out of a happy donor than it is to get a first donation. Also work with taht same pool to build a Campaign Cabinet - a group of people who have influence within the pool you are going to be drawing from. They can become Key Influencers over certain accounts and work behind the scenes to help advance an ask strategy. Do you currently use the prospect/search module? What types of reports are you running that facilitate producitve conversations on prospects? I find that we have conducted a lot of research and in my opinion we have tons of prospects. BUT we don't know where to start in the discussion and we always get side tracked to someone else. Who all should be conducting the research? Do you have multiple people and everyone entering it in the database or just one person? Thanks.

We paid an outside firm, Grenzebach Glier, to do a bulk propensity and wealth profiling of our constituent base. (Blackbaud has a similar service). This resulted in lots of raw data and, more usefully, a set of ratings that we could to identify and prioritize our top prospects. We chose (so far) to import only the ratings into RE, not the other data. The ratings leverage your staff resources so they can do further research on the best prospects and give their own ratings, as well. Mark F. We have adopted a great system from another UNiversity and are finding it is working really, really well. We have altered our Prospect tab (code tables, fields, attributes, use of action tracks) to track over 200 major donor prospects. We have a moves management flow that also assists us in tracking prospect through RE. I would be happy to share if you want to email me! Karen Denny

Please send any ideas. I'm wanting to be able to use RE for setting up moves management for about 75 major donor prospects... Thanks

I have been delinquent in getting info. to all of you who requested as I have just finished coordinating the entry/ retrieval of over 300 prospects for our Captial Campaign! Ahhhhh! Anyway, thanks to our new system we can do this pretty well! I am getting to everyone's requests...I will try by the end of the week to get to all of you and email you our "condensed" version of Prospect Management in RE. I have posted a condensed version of our Manual on prospect management on the Client Docs. This system is working more for us as a storage/ retrieval process now and will eventually be our prospect clearance/ management system.
