Joint membership or gift of membership??

    We are a membership driven organization. We have several large donors that receive comp memberships with their donation. I've been told to put the comp members as joint members OR as gifts of membership. The joint memberships are great because they update automatically when the large donor renews but they show up on my queries. Gifts of membership don't show up on the queries but they have to be updated manually each time the larger donor renews. Does anyone have any advice on the best way to handle this?

    We have a large membership department here. We've always manually updated a membership when a donor makes a gift. Can you tell me more about joint memberships and how it automatically renews please? Thanks for your help.
