What do those suffixes actually mean?

Hi, We have a bunch of suffixes in our table that we would like to clean up. There are a bunch that look like they could be the same thing but with different capitalizations or periods in them which is how they got into the table in the first place. Does any one know of a website that would help me clear this up? I also would like to figure out what CAGS is or CCC SLP, LISW vs LICSW, etc. We are a college and I know people worked hard for these degrees and certificates and I don't want to offend our constituents by removing/combining suffixes willy-nilly but it would be nice to trim the table if I could. Any pointers in any direction would be appreciated. I will also listen to any "horror" stories that result in "DON"T TOUCH THAT TABLE!". Last thing I am interested in is offending constituents. Not a answer to your question but along the same lines, I am curious as to what TIA means in your closing signature. Denise Stengl School Sisters of St. Francis Milwaukee, WI [Email Removed]

I believe those ending in SW are Social Work related, our abbreviations here are CSW for Certified Social Worker and SWA, which is Social Work...something - one of our grads has it and it is valid, I just added it to the table per her request. I totally agree in cleaning up the table. We have many military personnel in the db and we had Retired, RET, RET USN, etc... we also cleaned up our Titles because of Sargent, SGT, Sgt. I have found that most acronyms and initialisms can be found on the web. One site I use is http://www.thefreedictionary.com  It is convenient and seems to have a good handle on everything. I have seen some real catastrophic returns on other sites and being ex-military I happen to know the results were wrong. By the way, CAGS = Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study. It's the same weather here in south central Texas. Rain (which we are happy about) since we are primarily agricultural, but I'm already missing the sunshine. Elaine Tucker [Email Removed] Texas Lutheran University

I want no more complaining from the lot of you! It's going to snow here in Edmonton this week :( I am sooooo looking forward to a week in Charleston. There will easily be 2 or 3 inches of snow here by the end of October. Peter Gulka NAIT Development Office Edmonton AB Canada email: [Email Removed]
