    Conditional Mail Merge Question

    We put the following at the bottom of our acknowledgement letters:
    Donor Recognition: We plan to list your name as follows in our Annual Report and/or other publications; please notify us if incorrect:...

    I use this conditional statement to get the names there:
    {IF {MERGEFIELD Gift_is_anonymous} = "Yes" "Anonymous" {IF {MERGEFIELD Key_indicator} = "O" {MERGEFIELD Organization_Name}{MERGEFIELD Addressee}}}{IF {MERGEFIELD Key_indicator} = "O" ", {MERGEFIELD City}, {MERGEFIELD State}" ""}

    This works fine for the anonymous, and if it is an org the city and state drop in fine. The problem is, when the Org doesn't have a contact, nothing fills in for the Org name. I'll get " , City, ST". If the org has a contact it works fine and puts the org name, city, ST.

    In my mail merge (through Mail) I export Addressee, Salutation, Org Name, Key Indicator (among many other things). I just don't get why the Org Name won't merge into that condition when there is no contact name.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Conditional Mail Merge Question

    I think it is the addressee thing that is throwing it off. Organizations do not have addressees. You may want the name and contact addressee to be separate If..Then statements. Melissa S. Graves Databse Administrator Planned Parenthood of Connecticut [Email Removed] 203-752-2804

    Conditional Mail Merge Question

    Melissa, Do you think something like this would work? If the key indicator is O put Org Name, If Key Indicator is I put addressee. Then continue on with my other conditions. Sharln Sharln Chapman Manager of Records and Reports Lutheran Family Services in the Carolinas www.lfscarolinas.org

    Conditional Mail Merge Question

    I think that wuld work for me. I wouldn't want to include the org contact name in acknowledgments anyway. I think if Key indicator = O then "Org name" Otherwise "Addressee" would even work. Question: If their preference is something other than their primary addressee (do you change their primary addressee or do you keep it as a special addressee or attribute. Melissa G. Melissa S. Conditional Mail Merge Question

    Melissa, Most of our Org's are churches and we like to have the Pastor's name on the letter. I think that was my intention in the original conditions to have if Key Indicator = O then "Org Name" otherwise "Addressee". That's what I intended, but it may not be how the condition read to Word. If it was right in the condition (in my first post) than that wasn't working. To your second question. If someone's preference is to have something different than their primary addressee I will usually ask them if that's what they want all the time, and if so I will change their primary addressee to that. If not, we have a Donor Recognition Addressee. I usually export that first, then Primary Addressee. Conditional Mail Merge Question

    In this case I would have it read If Key Indicator = O then Contact Addressee Otherwise Blank If Key Indicator = O then Org Name Otherwise Addressee This should work. Melissa Melissa S. Graves Databse Administrator Planned Parenthood of Connecticut [Email Removed] 203-752-2804
