Using RE across a university campus

Apologies if you've already seen this message in another forum - I'm trying to cover all relevant bases. Hi I'm interested in finding out which universities - in either the UK or North America - have rolled out Raiser's Edge beyond their Alumni and Development office and now have multiple users in different departments. I'd also be interested to hear from you if you have explored the idea of rolling out Raiser's Edge but have decided against this. If you prefer, you can email me off list at [Email Removed] What have your experiences been in widening access to RE? Which departments are using RE? How many users do you have? Which aspects/modules of RE are your users most interested in? If you have decided against rolling out Raiser's Edge, what has influenced your decision? What other databases are in use in your university? Many thanks Nicki Nicki Hastie Information Officer Development & Alumni Office Nottingham Trent University [Email Removed]

Using RE across a university campus

We have not. Cost is the #1 factor. Our site license is for 7 users. We have a workstation in the President's Office that can "view only" all information. Alumni has 1 workstation with no access to gifts, can only add Notes, and cannot view Confidential or Prospect Notepad types. They can run queries and export information for mailings, lists, etc. (Years ago they entered data, and that was a big mess.) There are about 5 other offices who need/want access to alumni names and addresses. We exported very limited Bio Info from RE and our programmers created a database the other offices can access. Every Friday afternoon I run a series of queries that captures changes and new records created that week. I export that data and it's picked up and imported into the other database. It's not pretty, but is functional and is far cheaper than getting a bigger site license just so a few people across campus can check an address now and then. We are a small (1,500) univerisity, so cost drives most decisions. Nicki,

Given your posting is more than 4 years old I'm interested to know if Nottingham Trent have extended the use of RE outwith Alumni & Development.  It's something that we're planning on doing at Dundee and would appreciate any advice or insight into your experience - successes, pitfalls etc.
