How to keep track of scholarships

We are a foundation in higher education. I am looking for suggestions on how to track annual scholarships and to contact the donors each year to see if they are interested to renew their gifts and what are their criteria. I would use a constituent attribute to group the donors, a scholarship contact type to do the mailing, and action to keep track of the process. But is there a way to include the scholarhip details in the letter? In Config, I can not set up a letter for each donor. Any suggestions to make it work smoothly? Thanks for your help. We are also a university and are implementing our scholarship system into RE. I record scholarship conditions and criteria as specific notes. I also use attributes to record specific information such as sholarship type etc. We are also adding the student scholarship holders and recording the actual scholarships as spearate entities as some sponsors support multiple thpes of scholarships. It is a bit complicated and we haven't gone live yet. We will know how successful in a couple of weeks. Have you gone live with this yet? We are considering tracking all of our scholarships in RE, as well, and I would love to talk to you about your experiences.

How to keep track of scholarships

We have several scholarships which are funded through multiple donors, and we have donors who give to several scholarships. At this time each scholarship is set up as its own fund and individual gifts are credited to the funds. What we are looking to do now is track the recipients who receive scholarships in RE so that we can inform individual donors and the originators of the scholarships (many are in mememorium and family members like to be informed when money is added to the scholarship and when it is given away). Any ideas?

I track our scholarships as attributes in the education relationship. I set up a relationship to our school in the students record. I created an attribute category called Scholarships and made the attribute description a table that holds the scholarship names. The date of the award goes in the date field and the amount in the comment field. If it's a multi-year award, I put amount, date started to date ended. That way, I only have to enter it once, or, if it's renewable year by year, I only have do entry twice - set it up when it's first awarded and then enter the end date when the award ends. Richard, What kind of scholarship details are you trying to track? Are you are looking to track scholarship restrictions, criteria, etc. for selection and that sort of stuff? I have my scholarships entered as organizations (but marked as inactive and having no valid address so they don't receive mail). That way, I can connect my donors and my student recipients as relationships and then query on those different types of relationships to segment out donors or students. Also, I have a history of who received that scholarship. This will also allow you to run a list of your scholarships with the recipients or donors using the grandparents directory in reports. As far as the scholarship details, etc. for your letters: Couldn't you enter the verbiage you want to use concerning each scholarship into a note and if you format it right, merge the note into the letter?
