    Accounting Queue

We have the Accounting Queue but it is not working very well. What happens is the schedule works for a couple of times but then it simply stops working. We then have to go in and setup another run to get it to start running again. I have checked with another firm that has Accounting Queue and they see exactly the same thing - the scheduler stops working after a couple of times. Are others seeing this same issue and if not how did you get it fixed?

This queing service is a continuing problem as we have not been able to get it to work 'on a schedule' at all. It works 'on demand' but refuses to work on its own. BB has suggested this and that but to no avail. We/they have not given up and I will try to let you know when we solve it. One area to look at is that the logon userID in the 'properties' section of the queing service may be set to a certain userID. If that is the case, when that UserID changes their password, they also have to come into the server and change it on the queing service directly. If not, it will fail to work. Hello, I noticed that this discussion started in 2004 but wanted to add my two cents. My organization is also having the same exact problem. The "Q" just does not want to work. I was also able to run it on demand for a couple of times and now it just simply does not want to work. Scheduling is another big issue. It just never worked. I am curious what did BB suggested since 2004. I am currently working with to wonderful reps and they are doing the best the can to figure out what the problem is. Maybe we call all help each other! Please let me know your thoughts. Mauricio Zegarra

I have learned a few new things about queue. First of all if the queue is created by someone who has supervisor rights users without supervisor rights can not see or run them. Second in order to run a queue on a schedule you must open the queue and tell it to run and not log out of FE at all or the queue at all. Kind of defeats the propose of scheduling things, huh?

We just started using the Q these past 5 months and I had also discovered that the machine could go down. We do leave the server up at all times so I think I'm going to sign onto that machine as supervisor, create the Qs, leave FE running. Any reason you all think that will not work?

We've had the same problem and I gave up on running QUEUE. Too bad because we paid for it and it doesn't work. Blackbaud would love Cheryl's solution because it will use a seat to stay logged in as supervisor. Doesn't seem right that you are required to use a seat in order to use QUEUE.

As an IT person I can see huge ways that I would like to be able to use queues. It would be great at night once a month I set one to run queries to help with database clean up. It would great if I set one up to run after certain payrolls are ran, because we have a few reports to go to a few different departments. But these are all things I can't do because we log off our machines every night, so our antivirus software maybe updated and also run a scan, and our server actually backs up every night so the database is stop so that everything on the server is back up. This was a huge help two years ago when our mother board went on our server and we had to install another one.

Hummm...I've been puzzling the Qs in my mind the last few days because I really want to use it and that was a key feature that decided our final purchase decision. I hadn't thought about the extra license that would be used and that will be a problem for us. I had also forgotten that we back everything up on all servers every night so that would create a "shut down" of the Q. I'm still open to suggestions!

According to an email I just received for the BB tech who will be doing our upgrade to FE next month you can runt he Queue right on the server which means you don't have to be logged in from a work station. And you can still run the back up through BCM but we don't use BCM for our back up we use a special software and system that requires no one to be log into the server and backs up our whole server every night it even stops and restarts the server itself. BB tech states: "Can Accounting Queue be run as a service without having the queue open on the workstation? In order to run the Queue Service, it must be installed on one workstation, that workstation must be powered on, and the database engine must be running on the server. The Financial Edge program does not need to be opened.

We've had queue for a couple of years and ran into several problems with the queue running for a few days and then stopping, making it unusable. I finally spent quite a bit of time with tech support this fall trying to resolve the issue. The resolution from our support rep was: "I have duplicated this issue with your database and have reported this to the programmers. This is being reviewed for repair in the next full release which is scheduled for the end of the year. At the moment, please take the steps to re-schedule the queues each week to regenerate the schedule." At the moment, we have it running but do need to reschedule the jobs every few days. As was mentioned in another post, queue runs as a service on the database server and does not require a user license as far as I can tell. No one needs to be logged into FE for queue to work. Hope this helps. Paul D. Wykes VP Finance and Information Systems Old Sturbridge Village

Paul, Does it require the server to be running? Our server stops at 10 pm completely, it then has all network connections turned off so that a special software can run a full back up of the server. Sometimes this takes hours for a server; we have FE and RE on a SAN so this means that anything on the SAN is shutdown (Out of Order) from 10 pm until it is finished some time before 8 am when our work day starts.

My findings have been the same as Paul. Yes the server has to be running for queue to work but I worked out scheduling so that it wouldn't interfere with backups or server maintenance, etc. WHEN I HAD QUEUE RUNNING, I would schedule it at 7:00 pm when no one but me was here working 100 hours per week, I do the bbbackup at 10:00 pm, and I do a server backup to disk on a backup server at 12:00 am so that it doesn't take as long as it would if it was a tape backup. It still takes a few hours to do but by 4:00 am all my server backups are done and I can start my tape backups pulling data off my backup server and taking them off site. That might run all day because of the volume of data.

We have just started using queue. We are having problems with the queues getting through Outlook. They are often put into junk mail and cant be opened, or the attachment does not come through because Outlook thinks it is not safe.

Yes, the server needs to be running. Thanks. Paul D. Wykes VP Finance and Information Systems Old Sturbridge Village
