    Query results

I am trying to create a query. This is my criteria. Usually I get around 10,000 and change for my results. Im only getting 4,000 and change.

    1. Need constituents who have given to our THanksgiving Appeal in last 3 fiscal years 7/01/01 - today's date

    2. Any constituent who has given $50 or more in the last 3 fiscal years (see dates above) in any appeal

    3. All of our groups that we usually send appeals to, ie: Exec Directors, Politicians, Religious leaders, our own Community Council, etc. I get those out of the Constituency Codes.

This is what I am trying to do. I have broken it down into 2 different queries, Nos. 1 & 3 above in one query and then #2. in the 2nd query. then i am merging both and i get as few as 200 in the final result. I am using the OR operator in the 1st query and then and for the 2nd.

Any help would be great. Thank you.

Elizabeth, what are the totals of each query? And which operator are you choosing when merging the two queries? If you use *and* the constituent must be in both queries. If you use *or* they can be in either. Michael J. Sherman Donor Services Manager The Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay 3020 W. Laurel Street Tampa, FL 33607 813.875.5771 x3028

Dear Elizabeth, It all depends on the final results what you want. In the merge field, you will notice that there are 4 operators and each signifies its own merging criteria: Let me explain with an example: ConstA gives $100 last year in thanksgiving. ConstB gives $200 in XYZ appeal. ConstC is your usual sender list. You make a query1 combining your criteria 1 and 3 which will give u a result of ConstA and ConstC Your query2 with criteria 2 and which will give you a result with ConstA and ConstB When you merge query1 with query2 with the following operators: 1) AND: This will give u the fewest result. When you merge query1 and query2, all the "common" constituents will only be in the result group. So, in your case, only (constituents who has given more than $50) AND (have given in last 3 years OR is in your major donor constituent list). So only "ConstA" will be your end results! 2) OR: This will give you ALL the results with query1 and query2 and will not repeat the "common ones". So in the above case, your result will have ConstA, ConstB and ConstC. There are other operators like XOR and SUB but I think you just need to merge the queries with the operator OR and you will get the results. Hope this helps!
