Does anyone have any suggestions for best practices on email types?
Do you suggest breaking down to Email 1, Email 2, Email 3 or Home 1, Home 2, Home 3, Work 1, Work 2, Work 3?
Thanks so much for your help.
I believe it is really hard and unnecessary to record email types based on person’s address type. We have created business rules for email addresses. According to our rules each person could have no more than two emails. The types for emails are E-mail and E-mail Alternate.

Jackie, As Mark suggested I would limit the # of emails per person. Having 4, 5 or up to 9 emails would lead to lots of confusion and work to keep updated. I would however be specific in my email types, if known, of home / work etc. If someone says send me an email at work or I want my emails to come to my work address, having them identified can save work in determining which one is which. Not all email addresses are clear for determining which they are. My two cents...
We have three email types. Email, Email 2 and Email (bounced). We don't differentiate between Home or Business emails in the type on the basis that the person tells us which email address they wish to receive our communications to and then provide a backup in case of bounce backs. We do, however, record a business email address on the Primary Business record as well, since some of our users want to make sure they can easily email prospects at work. This means that business email addresses are entered twice, which is a pain.
When an email address bounces, we change the type to Email (bounced), simply to help us manage the process and try and correct them at some stage. It was introduced to stop people deleting those emails, when quite often a simple correction to the address was all that was needed.

Hi Jackie.
We have three email types: Email - Preferred, Email - Personal & Email - Alt.
When we recieve notice on a bounced or bad email address we remove from Bio 1, we create a note in the Notes tab called E-mail change, and post the old/bad email in the notes field. This allows staff to confirm the email they have is the most current in our system.
Hope this helps.
