The Field School (www.fieldschool.org) is a small independent co-educational school in Washington, DC that serves grades 7-12. Field offers an informal, inviting atmosphere that encourages intellectual and personal diversity, freeing students to achieve success in their own way. The school is at a very exciting time in its history as it is looking forward to celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2012. In preparation for that milestone, Field is looking to grow its fundraising and alumni base. Position DescriptionThe Database Manager’s primary responsibility will be to administer the Raiser’s Edge database. As a key member of the development team, the Database Manager will utilize Raiser’s Edge to help meet the organization’s fundraising goals, streamline donor acknowledgement, and prepare staff and volunteers with analysis and updates. The candidate will report to the Director of Development and will work closely with the Finance Office. Field has a fast-paced work environment, but also values personal development and work-life balance.Education/ExperienceTwo to five years relevant work experience in database administration in a nonprofit, marketing, or fundraising environment. Proficiency with Raiser’s Edge is highly desirable.Responsibilities • Provide database administration to assure that the Raiser’s Edge database supports the transactional and informational needs of the organization.• Responsible for data entry for all gifts. Ensure that the processing, tracking, reporting, and acknowledgement of gifts are performed in an accurate and timely fashion. Liaise with the Finance Department to ensure that all gifts are properly tracked.• Coordinate with the Finance Office throughout the year and at year-end for the annual accounting audit.• Ensure quality and accuracy of information in Raiser’s Edge and donor files.• Build and run unique queries, analysis reports, and mailing lists as needed by development and other departments.• Develop and manage a “moves management” system to track donor and alumni activity.• Monitor and prepare pledge reminders on a scheduled basis.• Monitor and manage the performance of the database to assure efficient operation. • Keep all database users up-to-date, informed, and confident of data issues and processes.• Document standard procedures for Raiser’s Edge use.• Stay current on professional, technical, and evolving work related issues; serve as a resource for advice or information on best practices to colleagues.Skills/Requirements:• Superior proficiency with Raiser’s Edge software• Demonstrated ability to learn new systems• Significant experience developing, implementing, and improving processes/procedures • Outstanding organization skills, including managing multiple tasks simultaneously• Ability to prioritize work, be proactive, take initiative, and resolve problems• Excellent communication skills; ability to interact collaboratively with staff in an organization with diverse concerns and needs• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines• Ability to work independently and collaboratively• Solid analytical and project management skillsThis is a full-time, year-round position that enjoys the school’s vacation and holiday schedule during the school-year.
