globally adding action to action track

Hello, We have just begun to integrate actions in our data collection process. I read k hartt's reponse to Matthew S regarding globally adding actions.  I would like to globally add an action to an action track or mark the dependent action completed on several records at once. Can you help with the situation below? I have an action track for a new constituent.  It indicates that a letter was sent and that a follow up letter should be sent 30 days later. I always enter the information on several people at once and send the second letter to those people at the same time. I assigned the track to 10 people and would like to send them all the follow-up then mark the dependent action, which is now open, as complete with today’s date.

I can query on the date of the initial action, then do a mail merge with a letter.  How would I then mark the dependent action on all 10 records as complete without going into each individual record and manually changing them? Would this be global add?  Global change?  Not possible?

Thank you for any assistance.  Audrey

Re: globally adding action to action track

    Hi Audrey,

The easiest way to accomplish your goal is to continue generating the letters through Follow Up Letters in Mail and on the General tab choose the option in the lower left corner to Create Action output query.  This tool will create an Action query that groups the actions for which you have just generated letters.  You could then go to Admin, Global Change, Action type global change and after selecting that group of actions, change the Completed? value or other field values.

I hope that you find this information helpful,

    Naomi
