    Duplicate prospect records in TRE

I'm looking at our TRE database and noticing that there are some duplicate prospect records in there. I'm looking under the group "All Prospects" so I imagine that these duplicates were created when they were included in two or more subgroups. I'm wondering if I should just look at the properties of each duplicate record and decide if I can delete whichever is the older one. Some of them don't even have any wealthpoint data. If anyone has any insights or suggestions, that would be most helpful.

Hi, Tom.  I'm Jenny Buderer, and I'm a member of Blackbaud Product Support's DAES Support team.  I think you're probably right about the duplicate records--they could have been added from imports or synchronizing with The Raiser's Edge.  Unfortunately, the import process in The Researcher's Edge doesn't include a duplicate record checker.

The easiest way to identify the duplicates would probably be to create a prospect group containing them and sorting by last name, then outputting the first name and last name and Date added (under Biogrphical > Properties).  Then it would be a matter of deleting either the record that was more recently added record, or the record that contains the least up to date or valuable information.

On a side note, the ability to check for duplicates when adding records has been implemented in ResearchPoint, the next generation of Blackbaud's prospct research software.  If you would like more information on ResearchPoint, you can contact your Target Analytics Account Executive at 800-443-9441 for more information. You can also subscribe to The Prospector Newsletter for current information on our products and support by logging into www.blackbaud.com and going to your profile and then Subscriptions.
