Blackbaud have scheduled a new London classroom course: Customisations

This course is aimed at the uses of VBA and API within The Raisers Edge database and is for technical users who would like to know more about customising the database using VBA and/or API. This first course is delivered by Anuraag Lal.  Anuraag is a popular Technical Consultant who has worked developing customisations with BBE and BBHQ for over 4 years.

Two Day Course Agenda:

• VBA vs API
• Basic Overview of RE API and Object Model
• The ‘Sessioncontext’
• Structure of Constituent Object
• Structure of Gift Object
• Macros Vs Plugins
• Creating Macros through VBA
• Manipulating Queries through API
• Dynamic
• Static
• Security Objects – Including User rights within your customisation
• Attribute processing
• Code table processing
• Database Streams – static User Settings etc.
• Plugin Shells for new plugins
• Macro Shells for new Macros using API

There will be exercises at each step to ensure that each attendee has worked with a simple bit of code to understand the API. The training session will be offered in Visual Basic, and on the sample database.

Pre-requisites for attendees:

• Familiarity with The Raiser’s Edge, ideally attendance of The Raiser’s Edge Essentials Part I and Part II
• Basic awareness of the following programming concepts:
• Variable Declarations
• Object Instantiation
• Inheritance
• Variable Scope
• Iterations/Looping (Recursion useful, but not required)
• Garbage Collection
• Error Handling
• User Interface design
• Knowledge of Visual Basic is an advantage

In depth experience in each of the fields above will not be required, but a working knowledge of the concepts and functioning is critical to complete and understand the training exercises.
