    Adding Non-Fundraising Appeals through Mail

We're having a little bit of a battle here. This is a two part question. First, would you add a planned giving newsletter as an appeal through the segment tab (7) in the Mail module.  Second, do all appeals have to be linked to a gift?

    Thanks for your help.

Appeals do not have to be linked to gifts.  As far as where to put newsletter, etc., (non-solicitation mailings) there has been lots of discussion on this forum about the best place to code them and you can probably gain a lot of insight if you want to search through the threads.  I do use the appeals tab, mostly because my predecessor did it that way.  I like them there because I can see on one page the number of mailings of all kinds a constituent has received.  Some folks use actions or notes for coding this kind of mailing, and I'm sure they have good reasons for doing so.  My mantra is choose what works best for you and above all be consistent.  Good luck with the battle!
