    The Development Associate will report to the Director of Development.  The position is full time, Monday through Friday and will work out of the Family House administrative office in the Shadyside area of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

    ORGANIZATION SUMMARY: Family House, established in 1983 and incorporated in 1985, is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation operated by a voluntary Board of Directors. The Family House mission is compelling and straightforward: to provide a special ‘home away from home’ for patients and families who must travel to Pittsburgh for evaluation or treatment of serious or life threatening illnesses. By offering convenient, affordable housing in a home-like environment, the agency reduces emotional and financial stress for people facing a difficult medical crisis in a city where they may be strangers.
         
        POSITION SUMMARY:   The Development Associate must be a strong advocate for the mission and vision of Family House, with an exemplary work ethic, high energy and consistent follow through.  They will manage the Raiser’s Edge database including gift recording, reporting & querying and constituent data entry.  They will also write, produce and mail all acknowledgement letters and foundation grant reports.   All fundraising reports, mailing and donor lists, campaign reports and event attendee lists will be the responsibility of the Development Associate.  They will also update and maintain accurate records in the database and oversee database upgrades and recommend additional needs for Family House.  The candidate should have previous experience with Raiser’s Edge and a detailed knowledge of the Microsoft suite, including Word, Power Point with a concentration in Excel.  Previous experience working in a health care or human service related non-profit agency and experience with the Raiser’s Edge Event module a plus. Occasional evening and weekend hours required.  Candidate should enjoy working with people and understand the confidential nature of Development and our Guests.   
        SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:  
      • Ideal candidate is a seasoned business professional with effective communication, computer, writing, organizational and teamwork skills; possessing a strong work ethic, problem solving and detail-orientated skills and overall flexibility in responding to organizational needs.  
      • Proficient in using various software packages in order to compile statistics, develop reports and produce other formal documents.
      • Must be experienced with business writing standards and proper use of grammar and vocabulary.
      • Possess ability to organize and manage work efficiently and consistently; and must be able to keep objective and well organized records. 
      KNOWLEDGE AND PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:  
      • Associate degree and/or equivalent level of knowledge required.  Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
      • A minimum of 3 years of database management preferably Raiser’s Edge in a professional non-profit environment required. 
      • Prior experience in health and human services preferred. 
      • Experience with the Raiser’s Edge Event and Honor/Memorial modules preferred.
      • A working knowledge of Microsoft Excel required.
      • Knowledge of basic accounting; demonstrate skills in applying a relational database in a fund-raising environment.
