    Stand for Children – a bold independent voice for public education reform – seeks an exceptional, driven individual to spearhead Stand for Children’s effort to dramatically increase the strength of its online constituency for education reform.

    The Organization

    Stand for Children’s mission is to use the power of grassroots action to help all children get the excellent public education and strong support they need to thrive. Stand for Children is a dual-entity organization, which includes Stand for Children Leadership Center, a 501(c)3, our leadership development organization, and Stand for Children, a 501(c)4, our grassroots membership and lobby for children which is also permitted to endorse candidates. To date, Stand for Children’s five state affiliates (OR, MA, TN, WA, and CO) have won more than one hundred victories that have impacted the lives of more than two million children. We organize parents, educators, and other concerned community members into a strong, sustained constituency that:

    • Helps elect strong local school board members, state legislators, and statewide elected officials who champion public schools.*
    • Advocates for education reforms at the local, state, and, soon, national level, including reforms that increase teacher and principal effectiveness, support school autonomy with accountability, and expand instructional time, that improve student achievement and close the achievement gap.
    • Lobbies the state legislature for strategic K-12 investments and then ensures local school districts spend those dollars wisely;
    • Campaigns for referenda and needed school construction bonds and operating levies

    New Media Director

    The Position

    Stand for Children seeks an exceptional, driven individual to spearhead a leap forward in Stand for Children’s online presence. The New Media Director is responsible for developing and managing a comprehensive online communications strategy, including internal and external promotion, online organizing, email campaigns, content creation, design development and technical implementation. This leadership role requires someone who can effectively lead a team of staff.

    Responsibilities:

    • Develop an online communications and organizing strategy that supports Stand’s overall goals and complements our offline strategy, and oversee all aspects of its implementation;
    • Build and lead a talented staff team who will implement media strategy;
    • Collaborate with State Executive Directors to identify opportunities for growth/innovation, and execute communications strategies that take advantage of these opportunities;
    • Oversee the creation of compelling content, features, and online tools that support the website strategy;
    • Develop inspiring and effective email campaigns that will recruit new members, mobilize supporters, and drive donations;
    • Work closely with the Information Management Director to ensure that relevant metrics inform our online strategy;
    • Manage external consultants and contractors to execute website redesign projects, technological development, and overall maintenance;
    • Develop and manage online marketing partnerships;
    • Alert colleagues to emerging technologies or applications and the opportunities to integrate them into our operations and activities;
    • Develop and manage the organization’s online budget, including website development and maintenance, outreach and promotion, personnel and operations.

    Required Skills and Attributes:

    • Passionate belief in Stand for Children’s mission to improve public schools;
    • 3+ years management experience and track record in motivating and building strong teams;
    • 7+ years online experience, including managing strategy development, content creation, and website development;
    • 3-5 years experience managing content and production for high traffic websites;
    • Strong knowledge of website production technologies, including popular content management platforms (e.g. Kintera,Convio) a must. Familiarity with NetCommunity a plus. Demonstrated ability to learn new systems. Familiarity with usability and accessibility concerns and techniques;
    • Extensive contacts in the online space;
    • Experience evaluating, contracting, and managing 3rd party developers;
    • Comfort training internal users and working with organizers to develop training programs for volunteers and organization members;
    • Ability to communicate effectively and follow-through on commitments to others; welcomes and incorporates direct feedback;
    • Self-starter with ability to gracefully manage multiple tasks and projects under deadline;
    • Exceptional customer-service orientation; proven ability to build consensus and work effectively within a cross-departmental team;
    • Strong alignment with Stand for Children’s core values, which are: results for all children; bold independence; empowering, entrepreneurial leadership, being the change we seek, and direct and respectful communication.

    New Media Associate

    The Position

    Stand for Children seeks a highly motivated, team-oriented New Media Associate to play a multi-faceted role in supporting the national organization’s expanding new media efforts. Specific responsibilities include:

    • Ensuring Stand for Children’s website stays current and dynamic by regularly posting and removing website content;
    • Developing and sending html email communications to Stand for Children’s supporters;
    • Managing social media accounts as an avenue for Stand for Children to stay connected to our supporters;
    • Working with a variety of stakeholders across the organization to develop, maintain, and execute new media communications, including field staff, state Executive Directors, and policy staff.

    The New Media Associate will join a national team of professionals committed to improving children’s lives. Stand for Children managers and supervisors are empowering, entrepreneurial leaders who are committed to providing outstanding supervision in order for staff to develop as professionals.

    Qualifications and Qualities Required

    • 2+ years of relevant work experience particularly with website production technologies, including popular content management platforms such as NetCommunity, Kintera or Convio. 
    • Strong planning and organizational skills; experience with project management; keen attention to detail
    • Self-starter with ability to gracefully manage multiple tasks and projects under deadline
    • Excellent verbal communication skills; ability to follow through on commitments to others and accept and incorporate direct feedback
    • Exceptional customer-service orientation
    • Strong writing skills
    • Strong commitment to Stand for Children’s mission to improve public schools
