Hi everyone,
I was wondering if any organizations out there input how a donation is received (mail, online, phone, in person). If so, does it actually benefit your organization in any way or is it just an FYI? Also, what is your process for keeping track of how a donation is received?
Would this just be extra work for us or would there be a value in doing this?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
We don't nor did I in other development positions. Honestly, to me it seems like busy work. It's not of major significance to us if donor mailed the gift or dropped it at our front desk in person. While we would through gift sub-types be able to track online giving as I would think the more important piece is how/why they were asked/motivated to give: solicitor asked, mailing, event, unsolicited, etc... That's where the solicitor assignments, appeals and documentation comes in.
You will need to decide if it would have value to your organization.
The only one we track is Online...because everyone (in our Org, at least) wants to know how much money we generate from Online donations. Sorry, I forgot to add HOW we track it. We have credit card types of Online VISA, Online MC, etc.
Most of our gifts are processed through batch, we attach a gift code for our online gifts, this gift code helps us report these types of gifts. To locate this, go to any constituent's gift, go to the misc. tab, there you'll find the gift code. Hope this helps you.
We only track online donations with a package Online Gift
