Regarding the hierarchy order of primary constituent codes between alumni and current parent, which one is primary? In general, do you have a primary order that you follow?
You should aim to develop a hierarchy for all of your constituency codes, the primary code identifying the most important for your organisation. Out of the two selected I would imagine that Alumni takes precendence, but this might not be the case as every organisation is different. You need to structure your codes according to your organisation's priorities.
Our 3 Primary constituency codes for individuals are Alum, Non Grad and Friend. If you graduated, you're an Alum and very important. If you took classes but didn't graduate, you're a Non Grad (we've tried to re-connect with this group but haven't been very successful) every other individual who is in our database is a Friend. If you're an Employee or a Professor or on one of the Boards, that is secondary to us. Employees leave, retire or are asked to leave, same with Professors and Board members come and go but the other codes tell us at all times why you are in our db.
In your case, I would let Alum trump Current Parent. They will always be an Alum, they will not always be a Current Parent.
My 2 cents,
laura
