Duplicate Search on Selected Records Only

Is it possible to run a duplicate search on a  group of records from a query?  I want to check about 530 records of graduates I imported recently to see if they are duplicated.  Sometimes we will already have a graduate in our database because maybe they were a scholarship recipient and various other reasons.

Did you know there is a duplicate search function that you can use when you imprt records?

You couldn't use the query of the the records you imported because you would be limited to just looking at those records so unless there were duplicates within what you imported it wouldn't work

Yea, I did know I can run a duplicate search function when I import the records, however, I forgot to check that button. Sad What I did discover is that you can create an output query of duplicate records, and then run the query and output and sort by the date added.  Fortunately, none of the records I imported showed up on the report or the query.  So, I feel a little better about it now.

Another option, if you are checking duplicates a lot, is to use IDLookup. This is a plug-in that was written to specifically check for duplicates before importing lists of supporters into The Raiser's Edge. Unlike RE's deduplication process IDLookup is very sophisticated. As well as being able to use the same criteria that RE uses - all the regular biographical and address fields - you can also check against other fields too such as email address, gender, title, birthdate and against the spouse record. Coming soon you are able to check against the soundex equivalent of the names. You are also able to check against subsets of your database records such as those with specific attributes, constituent codes or, coming soon, a query of constituents.
